One of the most interesting and active real estate areas in Austin happens to be right in the center of downtown. Existing older buildings include The Brown Building built in the 1940’s with a historical designation, The Westgate and The Cambridge Towers both constructed in the 1960’s. The loft and condo boom really began in the early 2000’s with the completion of the Nokonah, the Plaza Lofts, and Austin City Lofts. Currently available are condominiums located in various locations downtown within easy walking distance to the new Whole Foods market, restaurants, shopping (including the new hip Second Street District), art galleries, music venues and theatres.
On the horizon are many planned condo developments, not only downtown, but also just across Town Lake to the south, in East Austin and in the SOCO district. This has become a very popular lifestyle that offers various price ranges and amenities; the ease of no maintenance appeals to busy people who want the freedom to work and travel without the concerns that face many homeowners.
