The newest hip area of Austin lies just south of downtown and is loaded with the latest, coolest shops and restaurants. SOCO, just minutes from major employers and the university, is a developing part of Austin that opens its doors and closes South Congress for an event called First Thursday, a huge “open house” of shops. Restaurants include everything from a gourmet Italian bistro to local cafes, and specialty shops such as Amy’s Ice Cream and Joe’s Coffee Shop are plentiful. Boutiques located in small houses offer unique clothing items, and the well known Continental Club presents live music in a cozy venue.

Some of the neighborhoods located here are full of vintage cottages, while others feature newer garden homes and condos. There are architecturally interesting opportunities being constructed for live and work environments, within easy walking distance to shops, restaurants and arts venues.
